Holy Hair Lighters: Product
In 2022 I decided I would compete for Miss New York USA, representing my neighborhood as Miss Gowanus Canal. What started as a joke quickly became my life as I connected with pageant veterans and their voices began making decisions for me. I transformed into the type of woman I never thought I'd become, bleached my blue hair blonde, shed 20 pounds I didn't need to lose, and never took off my heels. While the experience introduced me to incredible women and a side of myself I didn't know I had, it also caused me to objectify myself to the point of derealization.
I created these lighters as part of my unbecoming. Each lighter is handmade with care inspired by my experience as Miss Gowanus Canal, from, On a Diet to Baby's First Brazilian, Spray Tan in the Spotlight, Consolation Prize, and more! I channeled my confusion, pain, and the human hair extensions I wore on the Miss New York stage to make something out of nothing. Thus, the Holy Hair Lighters were born, and now you can get lit with my soft, touchable locks!
